Dazed and wounded, Lara struggles to piece her life back together. However, a budding romance with a foreman at a nearby ranch, along with the camaraderie of the other women at the ranch, gives her the strength to carry on. With her self-esteem resurrected, Lara is ready to establish a new life for herself and her children.

Having been sent to a Reno divorce ranch after the breakup of her first marriage, Norden seeks to offer a first-hand account of the trials and aspirations of women who suddenly found themselves alone and abandoned to a legal system that discounted their importance. Through the book, Norden hopes to make people cognizant of the existence of divorce ranches and to educate contemporary young women on the improvements that have been made to women’s rights in marital law since the 1950s.
